Bike Fitting

Techniker Krankenkasse (TK)

11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Registration required.

If you bike to work and want to improve your health and fitness at the same time, you should start by getting your bike in shape. This applies not only to road safety and technical equipment but also to ergonomic adjustments. The better your bike is adjusted to your body measurements and personal riding style, the safer, more effective, and more motivated you’ll be when riding on streets and bike paths. TK’s bike experts will take a close look at your bike on-site, check key technical functions and features, and adjust your bike for optimal performance. Experience shows that adjustments are necessary in the vast majority of cases and result in clearly noticeable improvements.

You can book appointments between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. However, if there is interest, the team will remain on site until 5:00 p.m. to offer this service to employees even without an appointment. Book your appointment now.

Computer ReUse - Recycling and Distributing Used Laptops

11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

A computer is an essential tool for every student—these days, you simply can’t study without one. Yet 18% of UzK students don’t have a laptop at all. And even worse: 35% of students have less than 750 euros a month—so they can’t afford a laptop at all. At the same time—and we’ve all seen this—old laptops sit around gathering dust in offices. Unused, projects completed, too old—laptops have a limited lifespan in the workplace. Our Computer ReUse initiative brings these two groups together: unused laptops and students who need one.

Are you a staff member at the UzK (regardless of which faculty) and have unused laptops? Feel free to bring them by our booth. Ideally, they should have the UzK inventory number; however, personal devices are also welcome. The devices should not have any serious damage.

Are you a student at the UzK (from any faculty) who needs a laptop? Come by our booth—we’ll provide information, discuss your needs, and may be able to help you right away.

Preliminary information for departments, professors, and staff:

If you’re a professor or staff member at the UzK and have an old, unused laptop sitting in your office, please feel free to contact us (Computer ReUse Initiative). We accept unused UzK laptops, refurbish them to the highest standards, and lend them to UzK students who cannot afford a laptop. Would you like to support our project and donate a laptop? Here’s some information:

  • What devices do we accept?: Laptops, power adapters (even on their own), mice, tablets (only upon request)
  • What information do we need?: Model name, installed operating system, any damage, and the UzK inventory number, if available.
  • What happens to the data?: Data erasure is optional for you. You can erase the data yourself before handing it over. In any case, however, we will perform another round of absolutely secure data erasure. In doing so, we follow the recommendations of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
  • What do we do?: After you donate, we prepare the laptops so that they can be loaned to UzK students with a new operating system and a few useful programs.
  • Is this legally sound?: UzK laptops remain the property of the UzK and are re-inventoried under our project. For private laptop donations, a private handover form is filled out.

Please feel free to stop by our booth and bring your old laptop with you. We look forward to seeing you. If you have any further questions about the details or the process, please feel free to contact us in advance: hf-computerreuse(at)uni-koeln(dot)de

Preliminary Information for UzK Students:

Are you a student at the UzK who needs a laptop, but find that living in Cologne is too expensive? Then you’ve come to the right place. Through our Computer ReUse project, we refurbish old laptops from academic departments and can make them available to UzK students who can’t afford to buy one. If you’re in need of a laptop or are interested, just stop by our booth. We’ll talk and see what we can do for you. We look forward to seeing you.

The Sun and Us – Sun Protection

11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

We often underestimate the intensity of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation. If unprotected skin is exposed to the sun for too long, UV radiation can cause sunburn and, consequently, skin damage. As the number of sunburns increases, so does the risk of skin diseases in adulthood. The extent to which UV radiation affects the skin depends on your skin type. Discover your skin type and learn how long your skin’s natural protection lasts and how you can protect your skin.

Cologne: The Edible City

11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

In the “Edible City,” food is produced by, with, and for people and animals in the city and its surrounding areas. The idea to launch the “Edible City Cologne” initiative originated with the committee of the same name within the Food Policy Council for Cologne and the surrounding region. In the “Edible City,” you can not only grow your own food but also get actively involved, meet new people while gardening together, and become part of a vibrant community. At this information booth, you can learn about the “Edible City” action plan and the current status of its implementation. For more information, visit: https://essbare-stadt.koeln/

Cologne Rhine Cleanup Task Force (K.R.A.K.E.) - Working Together Against Plastic Waste

11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. | Meeting point for the trash cleanup: September 10, 5:00 p.m., entrance to the MTI building

Microplastic pollution has become a pervasive environmental problem. Among other things, it is a consequence of decades of intensive plastic production and inadequate global waste management systems. Through regular trash collection drives along the Rhine and at the “Rheinkrake” trash trap near Zoohöhe, K.R.A.K.E. is making an important contribution to reducing the flow of plastic waste into our waterways and, ultimately, into the oceans. Learn more about this pressing environmental issue at this booth and at tomorrow’s lecture, and join us tomorrow for our joint cleanup campaign on the biomedical campus. Let’s work together to send a message for greater environmental awareness and a clean environment!
