Gruppe der Akademischen Mitarbeitenden - GAMMAs

The GAMMAs represent the group of academic staff at the Faculty of Medicine, around 2,300 people.

As a mid-level staff representation, we are committed to the interests of academic staff at the Faculty of Medicine by

  • Voting participation in the faculty meetings
  • organizing the mid-level staff representatives in committees and commissions
  • topic-related general staff meetings (once per semester)
  • passing on information via an email distribution list ("GAMMAS")
  • Participation in the mid-level faculty representation at university level (Council of Academic Staff)

Who belongs to the Academic Middle Faculty?
  • Habilitated employees (only private lecturers).
  • Employees with PhD and university degree.
  • Doctoral candidates (enrolled).
What are the tasks of the GAMMAs?
  • Communicator and exchange platform for academic middle faculty concerns
  • Contact person for the Dean/Pro-Deans of the Medical Faculty
  • Voting participation in Faculty Council meetings
  • Information dissemination
  • Organization of academic middle faculty members for various bodies/commissions of the Medical Faculty
  • Participation in university-level middle faculty representation (Council of Academic Staff)

How does participation in appointment committees function?

Involvement in Appointments Committees: 2 academic staff + representatives

Selection criteria:

  • Gender, habilitation, PhD
  • Department with interaction
  • Committee experience
  • Personal and professional experience

The mix makes it! I.e. one young PhD graduate and one experienced habilitated researcher

*based on the UzK best-practice model for appointment procedures

Exclusion: Academic staff e.g. from Radiology cannot be delegated to an appointments committee for a professorship in Radiology as GAMMA representation.

How can I get added to the email distribution list to stay informed about GAMMA activities?

All GAMMA members are informed via the mailing list: GAMMA-INFO-medical-faculty(at)uni-koeln(dot)de

This mailing list is updated every two months as a rule. This ensures that we directly include the "new" mid-level academic members.

What are the goals of the GAMMAs?

Our goals:

  • Increasing visibility and thus transparency (internally and externally)
  • Involvement of engaged GAMMA members
