Choice of subjects
The University of Cologne divides the final year of clinical training into three periods (PJ-Tertiale). Students from universities in other countries do not have to adhere to these periods.
If you decide to do your final year of clinical training (PJ) or a short-term clinical traineeship (Famulatur) here in Cologne you are free to choose the time period as well as the departments.
You must spend at least 2 weeks in one department!
However, please note that the following departments require evidence of knowledge of the German language at level B2 (CEFR):
- obstetrics and gynaecology
- paediatrics
- ophtalmology
- neurology
- forensic medicine
- psychiatry (min. C1 necessary)
These departments cannot accept students who do not provide the necessary evidence of their German language skills before the start of the traineeship.
