Master of Medical Education
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cologne promotes good teaching through various instruments:
- Teaching awards from the Medical Student Council
- Teaching research prize "ForMeL"
- Medical didactic training (attendance of individual, free courses up to the so-called LAMA certificate)
The "MME scholarship for good teaching" is now being added to this as a further important building block for the qualification of particularly committed teachers. The Dean's Office of the Faculty of Medicine supports up to two MME-D candidates per year, subject to a successful application to the degree program.
As a two-year postgraduate course, the Master of Medical Education (MME) represents a qualification at an internationally visible level. It is offered by the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg together with 6 other German medical faculties and provides a comprehensive insight into teaching and learning at the medical faculties and beyond in eight modules ranging from curriculum development to the evaluation of entire study programs(https://www.mme-de.net). In addition to the content aspects, networking between those working in medical didactics in Germany is also an essential aspect of the course. Funding in the MME-Bern is possible.
With the announcement of the Cologne "MME Scholarship for Good Teaching", all employees interested in this course with a special competence profile in teaching and learning can apply for a place on the course. The scholarship currently covers tuition fees of €5,000 per semester. As the MME modules take place at the various faculties involved in the course in Germany, students must cover their own board and lodging for the modules. The requirements for applying to the MME program are here and must be fulfilled before applying for the Cologne "MME scholarship for good teaching".
