Fields of action - our transfer paths

Fields of action

The Faculties of Medicine and the institutions of University Medicine Cologne contribute their knowledge to the economy, politics and society in a variety of ways.

Communicating - sharing knowledge in an understandable way

Medicine is based on evidence-based knowledge, because before findings can be implemented at the bedside, research results must be examined in detail and closely in clinical studies, for example. The Faculty actively communicates research topics to the public via the University and University Hospital press offices. Communication supports scientists in communicating their results clearly and comprehensibly so that knowledge becomes visible and accessible to all. Here you will find an overview of our latest research topics.

Advice - Competent advice

Experts from medicine, neuroscience, nursing, midwifery and healthcare science at the Faculty contribute their knowledge to advisory processes, especially when it comes to socially relevant healthcare issues. They support politics, business and society, for example by acting as experts in committees, associations and working groups and translating research findings and practical experience into concrete recommendations for action.

As experts in committees at federal, state and international level, our scientists are actively involved in the development of laws and political decisions.

Applying - living innovations

For the University of Cologne, application means more than patents and licenses: Researchers work closely with industry and society to transform new findings into innovative products and services.

Start-ups are supported by the Gateway Excellence Start-up Center with coaching, advice and co-working. Our transfer team supports promising ideas and connects researchers with partners from business and society.

The Faculty of Medicine aims to improve prevention, diagnostics and therapy with research results - thanks to close collaboration between the laboratory and clinic.
