Antibody-based therapeutic, aims of our research are:

  • production of recombinant S. aureus and A. baumannii proteins and monoclonal antibodies for active and passive vaccination against infections
  • modification of bacteriophage and viral particles to become vaccines or vectors for gene therapy
  • selection of antibody fragments and peptides via phage display to select for inhibitors of Staphylococcus aureus infections
  • generation of monoclonal antibodies for the development of diagnostic kits to detect microbial target structures

TNF Signaling, NADPH oxidases, and Ceramide Generating Enzymes in Immunity to Infection and Cancer. In particular we currently pursue the following projects:

1) Individual roles of specific Nox enzymes in infection and cell death (Wiegmann, Yazdanpanah).

2) Individual roles of specific ceramide synthases and ceramides of distinct acyl chain lengths in TNF receptor signaling and ageing (Pongratz, Brodesser, Wiegmann).

3) Biological and biochemical characterization of neutral sphingomyelinase 3 (nSMase3) (Kwasny, Wiegmann)

4) Role of TNF-R1 adaptor protein FAN in cancer cell migration and metastasis (Böcke, Carstens, Buning)
