Welcome to KISS!
The Cologne Interprofessional Skills Lab and Simulation Center, KISS for short, is one of the first skills labs in the D-A-CH region. Founded with the introduction of the model degree course in medicine in the winter semester 2003/2004, KISS sees itself as a training and further education center for all students who require patient-related skills: In addition to students of human medicine and dentistry, clinical nursing and midwifery, the KISS is also involved in the basic, further and advanced training of nursing staff, other healthcare professions and medical staff at the university hospital. For this purpose, the KISS has a café with table football, 8 seminar rooms, numerous simulators and models in variously equipped learning and practice rooms covering approx. 1200 square meters. Observation rooms with videography and mirror glass are just as much a part of this as a rescue chain and a simulation operating theater. The Skills Lab works with around 60 simulators (actors), who are available for communicative exercises and skills-based testing. In particular, they are trained to give professional feedback to learners.
The KISS is also visible nationally: the Skills Lab has been certified by the Practical Skills Committee of the Society for Medical Education since 2020. In 2023, the KISS was allowed to host the international Skills Lab Symposium (iSLS) for a second time.
