The clinical part of the Research Track will be launched in the summer semester 2013 and is organized in an similar fashion to the preclinical part. A two semester lecture series aims to give detailed and profound insights into the research topics of the participating clinics, laboratories and departments. An 3-week internship should function as preparation of a doctoral thesis (Dr. med.) of high scientific impact, which should be performed ideally in the same laboratory. Excellent Research Track students will have the opportunity of an active support of the research dean’s office in collaboration with the host laboratory for application to research fellowships of the collaborative research centers or scholarships for outstanding students of Köln Fortune. In case where funding is granted the student is able to perform one to two semesters of academic leave to dedicate the time solely to research in the host laboratory without financial hassle.
