Major Instrumentation
Every year, scientists at the Faculty of Medicine have the opportunity to apply for funding for large-scale equipment from the German Research Foundation (DFG).
In the funding program "Large-scale research equipment" according to Art.91b GG, equipment with a gross investment sum of more than 200,000 € can be applied for. This includes the sum of equipment parts including accessories that together form a functioning unit. The necessity of the purchase must be justified exclusively by the use in research. In North Rhine-Westphalia, 50% of the investment costs are financed by the federal government, 40% by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and 10% by the university.
Application
Applications for large-scale equipment at the Faculty of Medicine follow an established process that is closely coordinated between the Dean's Office and the University Hospital's Investment Management.
Scientists who wish to submit an application to the "Major Research Equipment" funding program in accordance with Article 91b of the Basic Law are requested to submit an application outline (see forms) to Investment Management every spring. These outlines are reviewed and prioritized within the dean's office. In cooperation with the University Hospital, a large-scale equipment board draws up a provisional overall list of equipment for R&L and patient care. The final list of major equipment is approved at a board meeting. The scientists are then informed to prepare the large-scale equipment applications. Before the proposals are uploaded to the DFG's elan portal by the applicants, the proposals are reviewed by Investment Management and other departments. The subsequent review is carried out by the DFG, which usually takes 6 - 9 months.
