Support for medical faculties abroad

Curriculum development with the University of Dschang, Cameroon

The Faculty of Medicine is supporting the University of Dschang in setting up a medical faculty and implementing the Human Medicine and Public Health degree programs. In addition to the structural and organizational planning, the Faculty will provide advice and active support, particularly on the theoretical development and practical implementation of a curriculum for both courses. The origin of the project was a delegation visit by the Rector as part of a joint summer school in Cologne in 2017. In 2019, a delegation consisting of representatives from the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the DAAD traveled together to the University of Dschang in Cameroon.

Curriculum development with the All India Institute of Medical Science and Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan

Since 2017, the Faculty of Medicine has been advising and supporting both universities in restructuring their curricula along the lines of the Cologne model degree program in human medicine. These projects focus in particular on the skills lab, but also on other teaching content and structures of the Cologne course.

Capacity Deelopment in Cameroon

Dschang is somewhere in nowhere, a comparatively small city beyond the big urban hotspots in the highlands of Western Cameroon, in the French-speaking part of the country, at an altitude of 1380 m. The Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne is providing capacity development here: with a Cameroonian ambassador, PD Dr. Filomain Nguemo, who over the last 18 years has realised a picture-book career in Cologne as a stem cell researcher and works as a group leader in electrophysiology at the Centre for Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne.
